This privacy policy will explain how Lost in the City uses the personal data we collect from you when you use our website and app (the "Service").

What data do we collect?

We collect the following data:

  • Email address
  • Geolocation
  • Payment method details
  • Anonymous usage statistics

How do we collect your data?

You directly provide us with most of the data we collect. We collect and process data when you:

  • Register on our Service
  • Participate in a challenge through our Service
  • Purchase a premium subscription
We do not collect any geolocation data when you are not participating in a challenge. We do not collect any payment information unless you choose to purchase the premium monthly subscription.

How will we use your data?

We collect personally identifying information such as your email address to provide you access to your account in the case that you forget your login details.

We use your geolocation data during a challenge attempt to track your progress and detect when you have completed the challenge, as well as minimising cheating by tracking your average speed. We do not track your location when you are not completing a challenge.

Payment processing information will be collected on our behalf by Payhere Payments Ltd. and stored by Stripe, Inc. to enable us to collect monthly payments for the premium subscription. Read Payhere Payments Ltd.'s privacy policy here and Stripe, Inc.'s privacy policy here.

We collect anonymous statistics on average scores, speeds, usage of hints, and other metrics in order to help us improve the Service. These details are completely anonymous and cannot be linked back to each user.

How do we store your data?

We securely stores your data on our server hosted by Hostinger International Ltd. in the United Kingdom.

Access to your personal information, such as your email address, is restricted even to the moderators of Lost in the City. Please note that if you request any changes to your account, such as requesting a file containing all your data or for your account to be deleted, our staff will request the full email address connected to your account, along with some other information, to confirm your identity.

Sensitive details such as passwords are securely hashed before being stored - we do not store them in plain text.

Payment details are stored by Stripe, Inc. on their servers - we do not store a copy and do not have any access to them. Please see their privacy policy for more details on how they store your information.

Marketing and communication

None of your personal information is used for marketing. There is a newsletter that you may opt into via our website, however we will never opt you in automatically without your consent. We will not send any non critical mail without your permission, and you may opt out of any marketing emails at any point by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of an email.

Critical mail includes email verification, password reset confirmation, responses to support emails, and status updates about your challenge attempts (e.g. a trip being marked as invalid).

The app may occasionally use your city (that you choose when registering, and can change in the app's settings) to localise the advertising, but no personal information such as your email address or geolocation will ever be tracked or used for the purpose of personalising advertisements.

What are your data protection rights?

We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

The right to access – You have the right to request us for copies of your personal data. We may restrict how often you are able to do this based on demand and staff availability.

The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request us to complete the information you believe is incomplete.

The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.

Cookies

Our Service uses cookies within the web app for core functionality, such as keeping you logged in between sessions. You cannot opt out of these cookies, other than by not using our Service.

Our Service does not use any cookies for any form tracking or for advertising purposes.
